Moths are the most underrated of the flying insects. Up close they are cute and furry with spectacular pattern designs and colours. They are just as divine as the butterfly. In this 2 part activity artists use air-dry clay, in a guided process, to build a moth. In the first session, using clay building techniques like creating stencils shapes, scoring and joining, carving and smoothing; the artists build a magnificent moth shape.
After a few days of drying time, the artists return their creations with a primed surface ready to paint. Reference photos of real Australian moths are available as inspiration but artists are invited to paint their moths their own way.
Artists use acrylic paint and paint pens to bring their moth to life. Once their creation is dry it is sprayed with varnish to seal it.
